An esch is a raised field. There are quite a few in Twente, and together they form the typical sloping landscape with winding roads, farms and streams running between them. Agelo is a hamlet southwest of Ootmarsum, which is surrounded by extensive ash fields. This typical Twente landscape inspired artist Ton Schulten, among others, to create his work of the same name: Landscape, esches of Agelo. It is on display at Museum Ton Schulten in Ootmarsum.
This particular esch road lies just on the north side of the esches of Agelo, at the bottom of the Kuiperberg on which Ton Schulten's former home and studio are located.
