Vincent loved the Brabant landscape in all its facets. He also immortalised the dark, gloomy swamps, such as the nearby Seppe Swamp, in his drawings. He especially enjoyed how the swamp can reflect the setting sun, just listen to the audio clip.
Vincent had a turbulent mind. Yet he found peace in nature. He once wrote to his brother Theo: ‘When we drove back from Zundert in the evening, Pa and I walked a while across the heath. The sun set red behind the mast wood and the evening air reflected in the marshes. The heath and the yellow and white & grey sand were so full of tone and atmosphere. You see, there are moments in life when everything, including within us, is peace and harmony and life seems like a walk through the heath, but it is not always like that.’
The information column at Hotel De Reiskoffer tells you about the Seppe marsh.
