Studio Concordia in Bussum is a historic building with a fascinating past deeply intertwined with the rise of Dutch television. Built in 1897, Concordia began as a bustling cultural centre that provided space for theatre performances, exhibitions and even church services. After a major fire in 1930, it was rebuilt and reopened in 1934, after which it continued its multifaceted role in the community.
In 1954, Studio Concordia made history by becoming the location of the first live VARA TV broadcast, and later it became the place where beloved programmes like ‘Voor de vuist weg’ with Willem Duys saw the light of day. The building was even the venue for the first Dutch colour television broadcasts in 1967. Although it is now no longer a television studio, Concordia remains active as a centre for childcare, music lessons and theatre activities.
