The Stavoren Lighthouse has stood on Stavoren harbour since 1884. It is a 15.7-metre-high cast-iron tower designed by Adrianus Cornelis van Loo. Construction was carried out by Penn & Bauduin. The lighthouse served as an important beacon for ships on the IJsselmeer and has a rich history.
In addition to the lighthouse, there are two harbour lights on the harbour piers. These are green and red and mark the entrance to the harbour. Like the lighthouse, they were built in 1884. The harbour lights are essential for the navigation of ships entering and leaving the port.
In 1999, the lighthouse and harbour lights became national monuments. This highlights their historical value. The lighthouse is not accessible, but you can have a good look at it from the outside. Remarkably, there is an identical tower in Den Oever in North Holland.
