The statue ‘The Parachutist’ stands on Europalaan in Son, near a pond. This monument commemorates the liberation of Son and Breugel on 17 September 1944 by the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment and units of the 326th Airborne Engineers. The statue shows a paratrooper in action and symbolises the courage and determination of the allied troops.

A plaque has been placed next to the statue with the following text:

‘SON EN BREUGEL LIBERATED ON THE 17TH OF SEPTEMBER 1944, BY THE 506TH PARACHUTE INFANTRY AND ELEMENTS OF THE 326TH AIRBORNE ENGINEERS.’
