Statue ‘Commissair with binoculars’ - Suderwick

N 51.860429290879 / E 6.5017245102515

Three bronze statues have been placed in Dinxperlo and Suderwick, recalling the rich smuggling history in this border area. Created in 1996 by Bocholt artist Jürgen Ebert, these sculptures humorously depict the cat-and-mouse game between smugglers and customs officers (commissaires).

This sculpture on Sporker Strasse shows a customs officer observing the surroundings with binoculars, looking for smugglers. He looks at the road that leads to the Netherlands. It symbolises customs' constant vigilance to prevent illegal activities at the border.
