On the spot where St. Peter's Basilica now stands, a Romanesque church was first built in 1293. In the fifteenth century they started building the present church. The tower dates back to 1469, although the spire burned shortly before 1613. In 1648, the church was taken over by the Reformed. Due to the low number of believers, the church fell out of use, and in 1660 the building collapsed. Two centuries later, in 1823, Catholics began rebuilding and restoring the church. The church is wonderful sight to see during your bike tour!
