St Lambert's Church in Lith was built in 1899, to the design of Caspar Johannes Hubertus Franssen (1860-1932). Franssen was a pupil of the well-known architect P.J.H Cuypers and mainly designed churches in the south of the Netherlands. St Lambert's Church was built in neo-Gothic style and dedicated to St Lambert of Maastricht.
Until 1671, Lith fell under the diocese of Liège, after which it belonged to the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. Here, the Catholic faith was strictly forbidden and the then church fell to the Protestants. Only after the French left the Netherlands in 1814 did the Catholics, who until then had held their services in air-raid shelters, get their church back. What was left of the church turned out not to be worth much and a new church was built in 1843. It was only when this church was destroyed by violent floods of the Meuse that work began on the present St Lambert Church.
