Sleenerzand - Zweeloo

The Sleenerzand is a nature reserve in Drenthe that feels like an open-air museum full of interesting places. Special burial mounds with dolmens such as Dolmen D49, the Papeloze Kerk, or the burial mound of the chief of the Sleenerzand. A rich burial mound, from around 1400 BC, surrounded by a wreath of posts, where golden earrings, a bronze axe and bronze arrowheads have been found.

But also the remains of Iron Age field complexes, Celtic fields, walls around the fields, glacial pits created in the Ice Age and a recreational lake, the Kibbelkoele, which was created by clearing sand for the N381 national road, are part of this valuable area.
