The Sint-Jans Onthoofdingkerk in Gemert is a historic church building with roots dating back to 1437, when Gemert became an independent parish. The present building, which was later expanded and remodelled, received its characteristic neo-Gothic appearance in 1853. The 57-metre-high tower with elegant corner turrets is an eye-catcher in the village, while the interior is rich in art historical elements such as a medieval baptismal font and a monumental organ from 1833.
The interior exudes a serene splendour, with white-plastered vaults and impressive works of art, including paintings of St John and St Dominic. The Lady Chapel and the neo-Gothic main altar add a spiritual dimension. After a restoration in 2010, the church was restored to its full glory and is a cultural and religious jewel in the heart of Gemert.
