Crocodile
Hidden between the rocks and plants, right opposite the tip of the beach island, you will find this fearsome-looking crocodile made of rusted steel. Its large mouth is wide open, giving a good view of its white curved teeth. It looks like a prehistoric monster. Artist Patrick Visser placed the sculpture himself in 2015, after which the municipality of Harderwijk purchased it in 2016.

Metal artist Patrick Visser (Zoeterwoude, 1980) makes so-called Junk Art. From scrap metal, such as rods, old chains and gears, he creates striking new works of art: large sculptures of animals. In Harderwijk, you will also find an elephant, gorilla and lion by his hand.

Hanzebaken
The 14-metre-high work of art Hanzebaken consists of a slender pillar of Corten steel with a large undulating plastic sculpture in gold and blue at the top, and above it again a bullet ship covered in gold leaf. The ancient merchant ship symbolises Harderwijk as a Hanseatic city. Artist Marte Röling is said to have taken inspiration for this sculpture from lighthouses and the Venetian Lion. The sculpture was installed in 2013.

Besides being a sculptor, Marte Röling (Laren (NH), 1939) is also a painter and designer. She is best known for her huge sculptures and paintings pop art style, the portraits in the 1980s of Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus, and for several sculptures, such as the Flag Monument at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam, the sculpture 'Non scholea, sed vitae', for the Harmonie building of the Rijksuniversiteit in Groningen and the 'Thick fat golden dove of peace', of which she made several.
