Patiently, this bronze dog with thick trunk body, huge snout and small round ears seems to be waiting for something. The little animal sat down with it and laid its tail beside it on the paving stones. The small statue first stood near the city wall in Harderwijk, but was removed after being vandalised, later restored and returned to a safe spot on the Vischmarkt. (From Strandboulevard Oost, walk briefly under the Vispoort, the creature sits directly behind the gate).
Tom Claassen (Heerlen, 1964) is a successful Dutch sculptor who received several art awards. He searches for the essence of form in his sculptures of people and animals. His animal figures are among others in the sculpture park of the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo.
