Roden is the village of Ot and Sien, the twosome invented by Hindericus Scheepstra. Besides being a writer of children's books, Scheepstra was also a teacher and educator. The Scheepstra school on the Brink in Roden, located in a monumental building from 1894, was named after him.
One of the authentic classrooms houses the Scheepstra Cabinet. You can sit in the old school desks and write with a crown pen or pencil. Also very nice are the old school records and the original reading boards.
Further along De Brink is a statue of the writer and teacher. Cycling a little further on the same Brink, you will find a statue of his brainchildren Ot and Sien, the neighbourhood kids who taught many Dutch people to read.
