The Roman Catholic Saint Sebastianus Church in Herkenbosch dates back to the 13th century. The church was built from marlstone, as you can still see in the chancel, which has stood the test of time. At the end of the 19th century, the church became too small and the building was expanded, which happened again in 1924.
At the end of the Second World War, a large part of the church was blown up by the Germans who were retreating at the time. A new church was built on the foundations of the old one, and it was reopened for the first time at Christmas in 1949. The early Gothic chancel was declared a national monument in 1968. A beautiful church to admire from the outside and the inside.
