Just across the border in Wallonia, on the western slope of the Meuse, lies a beautiful nature reserve with an equally beautiful name; Reserve Naturelle de la Montagne Saint-Pierre.
It has an enchanting landscape of limestone grasslands and forests. Thanks to its favourable microclimate, this area is home to an abundance of beautiful flowers, such as the yellow sunflower, spring wildflower and burnet. You will also find impressive orchids, such as the soldier and the doll orchid. This makes the area a paradise for Hymenoptera, with more than 500 identified bee species, as well as numerous rare butterflies, beetles and grasshoppers.
It is definitely worth stopping off here to capture some of these beautiful orchids on camera.
