Want to learn everything about the island of Goeree-Overflakkee? Then the Streekmuseum in Sommelsdijk is the right place for you. With collections on various topics from history, the museum tells the story of this special region.
Old crafts are displayed on a historic street in the museum attic. You can see the forge and listen in on the workmen's conversations in Flakkees. Experience what daily life was like around 1900. What did people do then, what did their homes look like and what clothes did they wear? You will see it all in the Flakkeese living room.
Agriculture and fishing were the main sources of income on the island for centuries. Did you know that every village had its own motif jumper? This and much more is shown in the fishing and shipping department.
Finally, of course, attention is also paid to the battle against water. Goeree-Overflakkee has experienced many water disasters over the centuries. Especially if you know that people lived here as early as Roman times, you can perhaps imagine how many there have been that we as a people know about. The most recent is the 1953 disaster. With VR glasses, you experience this flood disaster very intensely with your own eyes. This VR experience was even nominated for a Golden Calf!
