Stavenisse was almost completely under water during the flood disaster. Streets filled up and the water penetrated the buildings, including the church building. The water reached a height of over 3 metres and moved the interior in all directions. The deterioration caused by the salty sea water is still visible on the walls of the church. At about 4 metres, you can see a clear line: above this line, the original appearance has been preserved, while the lower part has been treated to counteract the damage.
