Long ago, this land served for bulb cultivation. A soil consisting of dune sand, clay and peat was ideal for this. In 1955, the A9 motorway was built, after which this area was transformed into a recreational area. On summer days, people enjoy the water here and it is a pleasant crowd.
Unfortunately, the water quality suffers from blue-green algae and sewage. To improve this and address future challenges, a swimming bay was created that is fed with clean water from a deepened part of the lake. This can be sealed off from the surrounding lake, preventing polluted water from flowing in.
This bay not only promotes cleaner bathing water: it also enhances the lake's biodiversity and navigability. Thus, recreation and nature conservation go hand in hand.
