In a mansion dating from 1693, you'll find Keramiekmuseum Princessehof. The museum and the beginnings of the collection came about when Nanne Ottema, a collector from Leeuwarden, received the building at the disposal of the municipality of Leeuwarden in 1917. But it was not just any building: it was the former town palace of Princess Maria Louise van Hessen-Kassel. The name of the museum still reminds us of this.
In the course of the 20th century, the collections were further expanded. Besides a varied collection of Art Nouveau and Art Deco ceramics, you can also admire Chinese porcelain and a sculpture by Karel Appel. Every year, there are several changing international exhibitions.
