This striking little tower was built around 1860 on the instructions of Jut van Breukelerwaard, a resident of Laag-Soeren. He suffered from rheumatism. To treat the disease, he sought healing in a German spa. The cold water treatment seemed to work. This gave him the idea of setting up a water health centre in his own town. The streams in the Veluwe region could provide a supply of cold water.
In 1849 he bought the Laag-Soeren House with the accompanying land. He had the Bethesda medicinal bathing establishment built on this land, with water from the Soerense Sprengen. He applied the methods of four different hydrotherapists: Priessnitz (written with a double s), Oertel, Flusse and Rausse. Van Breukelerwaard erected this monument in honour of these doctors near the former Laag-Soeren House.
