As the Netherlands' fourth seaport, the Port of Moerdijk is an impressive hub for logistics in Europe. Located on the Hollands Diep, this port is an important link between the major European waterways and the hinterland.
The port and industrial area came into being in the 1960s, when the Biesbosch reservoirs were created. From the excavated sand, a new port and industrial area was built: Port of Moerdijk.
Shell was the first company to settle in Moerdijk in 1968, and the first Shell plant was opened in 1973. After that, the port grew rapidly.
It has since developed into a modern and innovative area where more than 400 companies operate, a seaport and container port of (inter)national importance.
