In gratitude to the Polish soldiers who managed to liberate the city of Breda from German occupation in 1944, Breda placed a Mary Chapel as a gift to the Polish community. On 31 October 1954, the Marian year, the chapel was consecrated.
The little building consists of mosaic tiles, inlaid with precious stones, gold leaf and a sandstone frame. Inside the chapel, you can see an image of the Polish Madonna, which is based on the Black Madonna of Częstochowa, considered a national treasure among Polish Catholics. The Black Madonna symbolises the Polish people's strong desire for freedom.
