Located at the bottom of the dike is the Polderhuis Dike and War Museum. At this location stands the tank from World War II that reminds of the liberation of the dike village on November 1, 1944.
The museum is full of tradition, history, and culture. Westkapelle was and is a desirable setting for artists, even though the village was destroyed during the Battle of the Scheldt in 1944 before the liberation of the Netherlands. The personal stories and objects make you aware of the freedom we now live in. For children there are interesting treasure hunts.
At the restaurant you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee with freshly baked apple pie or a (non-) alcoholic refreshment on the spacious terrace. There is a museum store with souvenirs and interesting books.
