Halfway down a high dune, just before Hotel Duinoord near the Wassenaarse Slag, you will find a panel of a white butterfly at the edge of the cycle and footpath. On the artwork you will read the poem 'Weerzien' by Boudewijn Buch (The Hague, 1948-2002) which is about Butterflies - in species that have long since ceased to exist - that he saw in his youth in the dunes near Wassenaar. The poem appears in the collection 'Collected Poems' (1995). Buch was a well-known Dutch poet, writer, bibliophile, collector and television presenter.
The butterfly panel is part of a poetry route that runs right through the village of Wassenaar. Check out poezieroutewassenaar.nl for more poems in the area.
