Within the landscapes of Gelderland, close to Arnhem and Nijmegen, lies Poelwijk. This estate, rich in history, has been transformed from a simple meadow into an ecological paradise since 1981, with the Waal dike and polder as its backdrop. The 600-year-old country estate is now a green oasis where nature plays the leading role. There are fruit orchards, hundreds of unique trees and shrubs, and several naturally designed rest areas.
Management follows ecological principles, without rigid garden lines, creating an organised wilderness. This place, a mix of history and nature, has limited public access, but is well worth a visit during open days, for those who love nature and the outdoors.
The garden and tower can be visited during open monument days and from April to November by appointment. Entrance fee 3,- euro per person.
