The beautiful mill was built in 1731, a proud beacon in the vast Nieuw-Pendrecht polder on the island of IJsselmonde. For generations, it operated the polders, protecting the area from the vagaries of water. But times changed. In 1958, in a time of progress and change, the water level of the boezem de Koedood was lowered. The mill lost its former task of water pumping.
The environment changed, leaving no place for a mill in this polder. A new destination was sought. The Zuidelijk Randpark in Barendrecht became the place where the mill could shine again, albeit with a small adjustment - it was raised by one and a half metres to prevent the park's vegetation from blocking the wind.
