In the valley of the Heiligenbergerbeek on the edge of a swamp (broek) lies an originally medieval house and estate Park Randenbroek. From the 17th century it became a country estate for wealthy city dwellers. The hills in the park are river dunes formed after the last ice age. In the 19th century, garden architect Hendrik van Lunteren transformed it into a park in romantic English landscape style.
Today, it is a national monument but also a much-visited park for everyone. You will find a playground, a sculpture garden, a dovecote, a large pond, a nature playground, a sup school, a sundial, many winding walking and cycling paths and, last but not least, the Coach House. The Koetshuis is home to the puppet theatre Toermalijn, known to every keientrekker (Amersfoorter), as well as the wood atelier of wood artist Frank Driessen. The studio offers art, gifts and workshops. For puppet theatre performances, check out Koetshuis Randenbroek's website.
Enjoy being outside in nature and the surprising vistas, the hydrangeas and rhododendrons, dozens of species of trees, shrubs and plants. As many as six species of bats live in the park. Also, listen to how many of the at least thirty-five bird species that occur there you can distinguish.
