This imposing country house stands in the middle of a residential area in Warga. You might almost cycle past it, but step off, Roordastate breathes history. For a number of years, the mansion housed a museum where you could take a look at the various rooms. Now you only have to make do with the exterior of the building, but even that is worthwhile.
Supposedly, the original Ald Slot, or Oldt Roordastate dates back to the 14th century. Over the centuries, the state changed hands a number of times. It was owned by the Roerda family, to whom it owes its name, and the Jousma family. The latter family was for some time in conflict with the Boulsma family, who also thought they had a claim to the state.
Around 1780, Ald Slot was owned by Reynold Popma van Oevering, organist and accompanist in the Grote Kerk in Leeuwarden. The current building, with bell gable, is a national monument and dates from the eighteenth century.
