In the middle of the moor, six tall pillars of red Breton granite pointing to the sky stand in a large circle. Together they support a wide boulder. The imposing work of art is reminiscent of an
ancient temple and, at the same time, a huge, high hunebed. At the bottom, the capstone has a conical dome with a hole in the middle through which sunlight can always shine. Thus, it has become a temple to the sun. It was placed on 4 April 2020.
Sculptor Rob Schreefel (Tegal, Indonesia, 1953) attended the Gerrit Rietveld academy and created several works of art in Drenthe as part of the Art in Stone art project, including the famous TT landmark near the Assen motor circuit. He draws inspiration from mythology, the shape of the stones and the history of the area.
