You can still see the date of the old house that has passed away here'. The rhyme that adorns Nijenhuis already shows that there used to be an earlier Nyehuis. But nothing else is known about it, not even if the house used to be on this spot. In 1799 the wine merchant Schimmelpenninck bought the estate, mainly for his son Rutger Jan. In 1805, he became a pensionary and thus the head of state of the Netherlands. In the house, only the historical department can be visited.
