Beneath Groningen lies a new nature reserve with rugged hayfields, swamp forest and plenty of space for excess water. Everywhere in the Netherlands, flooding is on the increase. That is why Natuurmonumenten combined the creation of new nature with the collection of excess water in De Onlanden. In this way, two birds were killed with one stone, because in this unique stream valley there was plenty of room for nature. Birds such as the bearded reedling, cuckoo, bittern, moustache, water rail and egret have found their place here. The otter also feels perfectly at home. Climb the lookout tower for the skyline of Groningen and discover Exmoor ponies and Limousin cattle. For a snack or drink, you can go to the Onlanderij.
