This nature reserve consists of two border areas: De Plateaux (the Netherlands) and the Hageven (Belgium). Together they account for some 600 hectares of natural beauty.
With the meandering Dommel river on its eastern side, the area fills with reeds, heath, fens, marsh and flowing meadows. An early 19th-century water system and perfect habitats for the bittern, marsh harrier and many butterflies and dragonflies, among others. Galloway cattle keep the heath in check with their grazing.
The area around the Dommel stream valley is particularly worth a visit. Cross the stream via Stone Bridge or the wooden footbridge and continue your exploration of nature via the wooden walkways. Or climb the watchtower for a fantastic view of the entire park. A special and a little quirky nature reserve that you will definitely want to experience during your day of cycling!
