In 1951, Mr. A. Bruinenberg, together with Mr. J. Hoekstra, founded the museum. The Bruinenberg family already had a long history of caring for birds in their kitchen. Bruinenberg was always actively involved in nature education for youth. He organized "The Spotting Birds," a club for nature-loving children, and co-founded the local birdwatching association.
Much of the museum’s inspiration comes from its immediate surroundings. With the unique areas of the Lauwersmeer region, the Wouden, and the Wadden Sea nearby, there is no shortage of natural beauty. The museum aims to foster respect for nature in a fun and engaging way. Today, the museum is part of SanjesZoo.
The museum is located near various cycling junctions, making it a perfect stop during your route!
