While cycling through Limburg you will see a lot of beautiful nature, but what was it like in the past? About 70 million years ago, Limburg was under a shallow sea, the Cretaceous Sea. Huge predatory reptiles lived here: the Mosasaurs.
Several fossils have been excavated in the region, which can now be admired in the Natural History Museum in Maastricht. The very largest is only on display outside in the museum garden; this skeleton is so large that it did not fit inside.
Go back in time and learn all about continents, nature, fossils and stones.
