The Kröller-Müller couple began buying pieces of land in the Veluwe in 1909. The couple who had a great love for nature and hunting thus amassed an estate of no less than 6,800 hectares. This estate formed the basis for today's The High Veluwe National Park, which is still privately owned but now belongs to The High Veluwe National Park Foundation.
On the grounds you will find the old hunting lodge of the Kröller-Müllers, The Kröller-Müller Museum, which houses Helene Kröller-Müller's large collection of art, the Museonder and various catering establishments. In addition, the park is known for the iconic white bicycles you see everywhere, which you can use for free within the park. With an entrance ticket to the park, you have access to most activities, only for the Kröller-Müller you need an extra ticket.
Various wild animals live in the park, such as wild boar, red deer, foxes, reptiles, amphibians, birds and.... the wolf. The wolf is a danger to the herd of mouflons that have been deployed as natural grazers. To protect these special mouflons, a wolf-proof grid has been created, where the mouflons have to stay inside.
The chances of spotting wildlife are highest at the beginning and end of the day. In the park, wildlife observation points have been installed at several places. Didn't hit any wildlife? Then you can visit the park's wildlife cam online when you return home.
