Museum Vieille Montagne - Kelmis
The museum tells the story of zinc ore mining in Kelmis over the centuries. The quarry caused quite a stir: For its coveted mineral wealth, this small disputed area even became a unique political and social experiment: Neutral Moresnet.
Be inspired by an international industrial saga and the special features of Neutral Moresnet: a ‘no man's land’ somewhere between smugglers' nest, mining centre and Esperanto utopia.
The mine's management building is largely preserved in its original state. The most striking element inside is the light-flooded staircase. Numerous elaborate details are typical of the geometric Art Nouveau style of the early 20th century.
