The museum building was formerly a post office. This is reflected in the façade of the national monument: the structure of envelopes was the inspiration for the gold-coloured façade. A real eye-catcher at the entrance to the city of Venlo. The striking window that protrudes from the roof is called the Dive Goggles. Because of its shape, but also because it gives you a very special view of Venlo. Nice detail: you don't need an entrance ticket to see it.

The collection originated from the donation of the private collection of Maarten and Reina van Bommel - van Dam. A broad collection of modern and contemporary art by (inter)nationally renowned artists, which has grown to more than 14,000 works. In the museum, founders Maarten and Reina van Bommel - van Dam have a place of honour on floor -1. In their own living room, called the Stijlkamer, they come to life as Pepper's Ghost. A large part of the museum is accessible free of charge: only the exhibition rooms on the ground and first floor require a ticket. With two large exhibition spaces, cabinets and art objects throughout the building, there is always plenty to see in the field of modern and contemporary art. In addition, both inside and outside the museum walls, work is carried out on projects focusing on current social issues.
