The Hernhutters were brothers who originally came from the former Czechoslovakia, but were persecuted there, fled and ended up in Hernhut in Germany. In that town they built a settlement that has grown into an Evangelical Brethren community. From Hernhut, several Brethren communities were founded throughout Europe, also in Slot Zeist in 1745. The Hernhutters have left many traces in Zeist. The Brothers' and Sisters' Square in the gardens of Slot Zeist and the church building were created thanks to the Hernhutters.
The museum tells the history of this community. Various rooms show the celebrations that the Hernhutters held and films about the lives of the brothers, as well as their past lives and utensils, hymn books, music, education and the missionary work of the Hernhutters. The museum shop offers original gifts, such as the 'Herrnhuter' stars that are often seen in the winter months as Christmas decorations.
