Douwe Egberts built the first factory on this piece of historic Joure. Now this is Friesland's manufacturing museum. Here, you will discover not only the origins of Douwe Egberts and Pickwick, but also the craftsmanship behind old trades. Think clockmaking, metalwork and old printing techniques. This is not a museum just for watching, here you get to work yourself!
The four themed museum routes take you through ten historic buildings. One route takes you through the Douwe Egberts factory, the old shop De Witte Os and the former warehouse, among others. One route specialises in the metal factory and shows you the coppersmith shop, silversmith and copper foundry. Finally, there is a route along the Clock Factory and one along the Printing Works.
There is plenty to do for young and old alike. Try linocut, learn all about tea and make something beautiful yourself in The Making Factory. Finish in the museum café with a freshly ground cup of Douwe Egberts coffee, included in your entrance ticket. And if you don't like coffee, feel free to redeem it for tea or lemonade.
