The Museum Harbour of Zutphen is an open-air museum on the IJssel. The harbour houses a changing collection of classic ships, forming a living link between the city and its maritime past.
The ships in the harbour are mostly former commercial vessels such as tjalks, clippers and tugs. Many of these ships are recognised sailing monuments, often lovingly restored by private owners. Some are still inhabited or actively used, giving the harbour a unique dynamic: it is not a static exhibition, but a living whole where you can sometimes even step on board and talk to the crew.
The Museum Harbour played an important role in the time that Zutphen was an active Hanseatic city. Thanks to the Hanseatic Harbour, the city was able to grow into an economic trading centre.
By preserving the authentic ships and collaborating with heritage organisations, the Museum Harbour ensures that the Dutch maritime heritage is kept visible.
