This octagonal scaffold mill was originally built as a sawmill in Gorredijk in 1868. Miller Weyert Zeephat (1873-1970) brought the mill to Twytel in 1913 and moved it again to Makkinga in 1925. Here the, now, corn mill found its final destination and, after the miller's death, was renamed Molen de Weyert.
The mill is owned by the municipality of Ooststellingwerf and operated by volunteers who keep it running. There is a mill shop below the mill and the adjacent building houses Museum Oold Ark. Here you can see Albert Mulder's out-of-control collection of old tools.
