At this strategic spot on the eastern bank of the Regge, a castle once stood on a Motteheuvel. Around the motte hill was a moat with a width of 6 to 8 metres and an outer circumference of 40 metres. From the moat, the soil for the mound had been extracted. However, the owner of the castle did not have permission to fortify the building. This was reason enough for the Bishop of Utrecht to destroy the structure during the expedition against the robber knights of the Regge Line in 1380.
The carefully dug moat and the mound could not prevent an attack. This motte mound is considered one of the precursors of the nearby Huize Het Laar. The area has been labelled an archaeological monument. There is a sign at the site with more information.
