On 21 September 2008, the Stichting Vier Vrijheid Schaijk founded this monument. The three standing, three-dimensional Vs touch each other in a flame and stand for the three words: Vrede (Peace in Dutch), Vrijheid (Freedom in Dutch) and Verantwoordelijkheid (Responsibility in Dutch).
The monument is a reminder of the battle fought during World War II and how difficult it was to regain freedom. Therefore, a number of proverbs emphasise the need to always work to preserve freedom and peace.
The statue was made possible by a donation from the family of German pilot Gerard Rohde, who was killed near Schaijk during the war.
