This huge complex with numerous buildings is a mobilisation complex or MOB complex. The sheds are used as storage for items such as military vehicles. The purpose of these complexes is to enable rapid mobilisation. MOB Rucphen is still in use by defence forces.
Incidentally, the complex is surrounded by high fences for a reason. On 9 September 1952, an aeroplane thief hunt took place here. The pilot of an accidental overflying sports plane saw from the air that a thief entered the military camp near Rucphen and brought goods outside the fence. Flying low, the pilot was able to approach the thief to within 10 metres, after which the thief fled into the forest. To alert the camp's military, the pilot then started flying conspicuously above the camp, after which the camp commander had the area cordoned off. Unfortunately, the thief had disappeared, but leaving behind the loot.
