The first mill in Veenoord was built in 1862. It stood not far from the current mill, and served as a peel and grist mill. After it burnt down due to an accident, a mill at the current mill site emerged as its successor in 1904. This mill had come from Mensingeweer, where it served as an oil mill. Due to lightning strikes, this mill was also lost. Again, a mill was transferred to Veenoord in 1916. This mill had originally been built in Leeuwarden, then stood in Heerenveen and ended up in Veenoord via Hankate. The mill underwent a major restoration between 1972 and 1974.
