The mill is situated in the hamlet of Oude Molen between Bathmen and Lettele. The name Oude Molen is due to a mill that stood on this spot as early as 1552. In 1935, the present windmill threatened to be demolished, but Doctor Mulder and the Association De Hollandse Molen (The Dutch Windmill Association) fortunately managed to persuade the miller at the time to change his mind. In 1962, the new owner had plans to completely demolish the inside of the mill. Fortunately, this was also prevented. In 1965, after restoration, the mill was put back into use as a grinding machine.
In 1983, the mill was shut down again. Local interest groups devoted themselves to the preservation and restoration of the mill. In 1990, the first grain was milled again.
