In 1684, the village of Kortgene was redyked in. A mill was probably also built then: the predecessor of today's mill De Korenbloem. This burned down in 1873, after which the current mill was built.
The sails naturally turn when there is wind, but to produce during windless conditions, the mill has been mechanically driven since 1922. During the 1953 flood disaster, the mill was an important refuge. Yet De Korenbloem subsequently fell into disrepair and was dismantled.
Until 2009, when Molen de Korenbloem Foundation bought the mill with the aim of making it millable again and giving it back to the village. No sooner said than done. In 2011, the fully restored mill was officially opened.
On the wall of the mill is a board showing all the owners of De Korenbloem. Every Saturday, the mill shop is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., where you will find various flours, cake mixes and all kinds of gift items for sale.
