On the spot where Molen De Duif is now located, there was already a corn mill in the seventeenth century with the name Veelhorster molen. At that time, this corn mill was an indispensable part of Nunspeet's food supply and the miller therefore occupied an important position in the village community of the Veluwe agricultural village. In 1818, the standerd mill was replaced by an octagonal mill placed on a bell. Unfortunately, in 1886, lightning struck and the mill burned down completely. Coincidentally, a mill builder in Deventer already had a complete mill, in parts, ready to go, intended for a business in Limburg that had gone bankrupt. Transported by horse and cart to Nunspeet, within six weeks the mill was up and running there.
At the bottom of the mill, now christened De Duif, you will find a country shop where you can buy the tastiest regional products. Most of the products sold here come directly from farmers and gardeners in the region. In summer, there is even a terrace behind the mill, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with some goodies.
