Sluis had no less than seven mills in the 15th century. The Pasmolen, an open post mill stood there until 1926 and the open post mill on the road to St Anna ter Muiden, dating from 1797, was demolished in 1937.
Mill De Brak was built in 1739 and originally served as a corn mill. The mill has had various functions over the centuries and is an important part of Sluis' industrial heritage. Tours of the mill are given, in which expert guides tell you all about the construction, maintenance and historical significance of De Brak.
Mill De Brak is named after the French dog breed Braque. Just as a dog sticks its nose into the wind, so does the Windmill.
