Middachten Estate is designated as a national iconic national monument. The estate consists of a medieval castle from 1695, a castle garden, a park forest and extensive farmland. The castle was commissioned by squire Godard van Reede-Ginkel, at a strategic location in a loop of the river IJssel and on the foundations of a 12th-century "freehold" of the Middachten family.
The estate has never been sold, but has always remained in the family and its descendants. The castle is open to the public on Sundays in July and August from 13:00 to 16:00. The gardens are open Wednesday to Sunday from 1pm to 4pm from June to September.
